Poem 7: Untitled

You try to swallow me whole

With your eyes,

But I don’t go down easy.

You have to break me down in bites

And snapshots

To get every inch of me in.

You try to burn my energy

Into your memory

But it never stays long enough

To keep you full.

You think you’re sneaking every look

Like a kid hiding candy in his pockets.

But like a mother

Who knows her son’s

Affinity for sugar,

I’m aware of

Every

Microscopic

Stare.
