Poem No. 41

I might need a new skyline.

The one I've got no longer shines.

It used to illuminate your hands, your skin, your eyes.

I might need to leave you both behind.

I've crawled on hands and knees for you.

I've watched while you've thrown love away.

I've drank myself to sleep wishing you knew me.

I've cried in your kitchen — just another day.

There's a pretty good chance you love me.

And just as much that you don't.

But it's not a question of ability;

It's simply that you won't.

So I can't continue to stay here

In a city with dark windows and darker hearts.

I'll need to find a warmer home —

One that keeps us far apart.

You'll cause a scene when I tell you,

But we'll both know it's not genuine.

You'll move onto the next woman.

We both know you'll be just fine.

You'll be just fine.
