Sonnet No. 1
The night is ripe for the taking.
The sky is wide with stars.
And I'm not interested in faking
Because we have come too far.
The grass is wet with evening.
The sounds of summer sing.
While we've got no plans of conceiving,
I wouldn't mind practicing.
It was then your eyes and energy shifted
Like a thunderstorm in June.
I knew what I'd be gifted,
And it made the flowers bloom.
I didn't know how to let you know this —
I always did love when you were closest.
